In 1887 the Hanoverian Emil Berliner achieved a breakthrough in the invention of the record.
He founded the ""Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft"" (German Gramophone society) and had the first record factory built, which is located in the Kniestraße. Already in the first year about 25,000 records were pressed daily.
